Local students showcase their artwork at YSU and compete for awards.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Some of the area’s youngest artists were recognized Saturday at Youngstown State University.

Exceptionally talented students from across the Valley were showcased during a ceremony at Ford Theater inside Bliss Hall.

“My mom taught me that if I want to get better, I have to keep practicing and practicing, so I have,” said Kayla Jadue, Gold Key winner. “That’s where it got me, here today.”

Out of 560 entries, a panel of judges chose works that received Gold and Silver awards, or honorable mention.

Five of those will be nominated for the American Vision Awards. The winning students will be sent to New York City, where they’ll compete for scholarships with students from all over the country.
