St. Dominic’s pastor still waiting for new assignment

Father Maturi of St. Dominic's church in Youngstown is still waiting for a new assignment.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Father Greg Maturi gave his farewell mass at St. Dominic’s in Youngstown on September 20th. Almost four months later, he still doesn’t have his next assignment.

Maturi says the provincial asked him to stay at St. Dom’s a little longer while it chooses a new pastor. He says he could be asked to stay another term, but that it would be unusual.

“While I’m here, we’re still doing good work thanks to good people in the community, including the United Way. United Way has been a great sponsor of all our events. We’re able to help out with kids and families in the neighborhood.”

Maturi has been with the church for six years. He started “Operation Redemption,” a crusade to tear down abandoned homes on the south side of Youngstown as a way to fight crime and drugs.
