Drugs, large amount of cash found during Campbell traffic stop

Police confiscated drugs, weapons and cash during a traffic stop for a broken headlight on January 14, 2016.

CAMPBELL, Ohio (WKBN) – A traffic stop in Campbell for a broken headlight led to the discovery of drugs, weapons and a large amount of cash, according to police.

On Thursday, officers stopped a tan Suzuki with the broken headlight on Wilson Avenue near Morley Avenue. The stop was made after the driver pulled out of the Campbell Speed Check, according to a police report.

Police said the passenger, identified as Timothy Capps, Jr., was found to be on house arrest for prior OVI charges, and he was wearing a GPS ankle bracelet. The driver was identified as Niki Datri.

Police said Datri, who had a concealed carry permit from Utah, was found to be in possession of a gun. Police said Datri said he had the weapon on his ankle, when asked.

Capps told police he had a knife.

Police said a K9 alerted to drugs in the vehicle. Datri was found with $9,652 in cash, and Capps was in possession of several hydrocodone pills hidden in a pack of cigarettes, according to the report. Police also discovered additional money in the vehicle, bringing the total amount of cash to $19,652.

Datri was cited for two headlights required and improper handling of a firearm. Capps was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, and he was taken to Trumbull County Jail.

Datri and Capps were arraigned in Campbell Municipal Court on Friday. A preliminary hearing was set for Capps at 9 a.m. Friday. A pre-trial was set for Datri on March 29.
