Konate, Austin lift Kennedy Catholic past defending champs Constitution

Sagaba Konate was named the Player of the Year in Class "A" Saturday, headlining postseason awards for the Golden Eagles.

HERMITAGE, OH (WKBN)-Sagaba Konate got the bucket, and the foul with less than 10 seconds left in a tie game to give Kennedy Catholic the win over Constitution 62-59.

KC came into the game the top-ranked team in Class A, Constitution was ranked 4th.

Jason Austin led the way for the Golden Eagles in the first half with 15 of his game-high 23 points coming in the first 16 minutes.

The Generals trailed by 3 at the half and didn’t have a lead in the first two quarters. But they made a run in the beginning of the 3rd quarter to take the lead, and extended it to as many as 9 in the 4th quarter.

That’s when Drew Magestro found Konate on an alley-oop that got the crowd, and KC back into the game.

The Golden Eagles continued to feed their big man inside down the stretch including the game-winner as the West Virginia commit finished with 14 points.

Kennedy improves to 12-2 overall and will play Pittsburgh Central Catholic Saturday evening at Slippery Rock.
