Mooney, Ursuline set to join North Coast League

YOUNGSTOWN, OH (WKBN) – For the first time in over a decade, Cardinal Mooney and Ursuline will be in a football conference beginning in 2017 after the two schools accepted invitations from the North Coast League Monday afternoon.

It would be the first time the two schools would be in a conference since the Steel Valley Conference in 2003, and will only be for football.

Now the conference teams will vote on a new 17-team, three-tiered conference that would include Akron Hoban, SVSM, Cleveland Benedictine, Walsh Jesuit, Mentor Lake Catholic, Mooney, and Ursuline in Tier One.

The proposed Tier Two would feature Parma Padua, NDCL, University School, Cleveland Central Catholic, and VASJ.

St. Thomas Aquinas, Warren JFK, Trinity, Valley Christian, and Gilmour Academy would be included in Tier Three.

A final layout of the tiers is expected over the next week.

Only 12 teams played in the league this past season which was in two tiers.
