BREEZEWOOD, Pa. (AP) – An 86-mile portion of the westbound Pennsylvania Turnpike will close for about three hours on Wednesday so crews can retrieve a tractor-trailer over an embankment.
The truck went off the road during the weekend’s snow storm.
The westbound lanes will close about 9 a.m. from Breezewood to New Stanton. Traffic will be detoured onto Interstates 70 and 68 to U.S. Route 119, where vehicles can re-enter the toll road at New Stanton.
Turnpike official say the more than 100-mile detour is necessary because of the volume of traffic being re-routed.
Officials expect the westbound lanes will reopen within three hours, but they will remain closed as long as needed to recover the truck.
The same eastbound stretch of turnpike had to be closed Sunday so crews could remove more than 500 snowbound vehicles from the westbound lanes.
