AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who stole a change machine from a car wash on Kirk Road in broad daylight.

The theft occurred around 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Surveillance video from the TLC Wash and Vac Car Wash captured images of the man, who was seen pulling a change machine, worth around $5,000, off the wall.

Investigators said he then carried it away, walking toward South Raccoon Road, where witnesses saw him walking down the road with the large machine.

“They saw him cross the road in front of their vehicle. Last they saw him, he was in the Kirk Road-Hamman Drive area, which is a quarter mile, half mile up the road on foot,” said Austintown Police Sgt. Ron McComb.

The car wash has high-quality surveillance cameras, recording the suspect’s every move.

“It’s very important, it’s our way of identifying our subject, having no one have seen him, that’s our way of identifying him,” McComb said of the surveillance video.

Employees at the car wash said the panel likely didn’t have any money in it at the time.

The suspect was described as a 25- to 30-year-old white man, approximately 5’08” tall and 160 pounds, wearing a gray zip-up hooded jacket and light blue jeans.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the man to call the police department at 330-799-9721.
