Gajdos helps Poland clinch at least share of AAC Title

The Bulldogs prevented Lakeview from clinching their 5th straight title outright.

Cortland, OH (WKBN) – The Poland girls basketball team won a thrilling back and forth game over Lakeview, 58-53 Saturday to clinch at least a share of the AAC White Division title.

There were plenty of lead changes throughout, as Lakeview took a 28-27 lead into the break. The second half was much of the same, with Lakeview leading by as many as seven points before Poland mounted their rally. Poland hit their free throws down the stretch to seal it.

With the win, Poland improves to 11-1 in conference play and clinches at least a share of the AAC White Division title. It’s their first conference title since 2003. Meanwhile, Lakeview drops to 11-1 overall and 10-1 in the conference, with one more game against Niles to round out their schedule. If Lakeview defeats the Red Dragons Monday, they officially clinch a share.

Sophomore Bella Gajdos scored a game-high 28 points for Poland, while Sarah Bury added 13. Addie Becker led Lakeview with 20 points, while Annie Pavlansky had 19.

These two teams could meet again in the state tournament. Lakeview is the No. 1 seed in their Division 2 District, while Poland is the 3 seed.
