CENTER TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – A fire broke out around midnight on Saturday at a Center Township government building.
The building served as a garage for most of the township’s vehicles. Dump trucks, snow plows, lawn mowers and an oil truck were all destroyed. The only things saved were a backhoe and police cruiser.
Township officials say there may be setbacks with the amount of equipment destroyed.
“With all of the equipment ruined, it’s going to be a chore patching our roads and getting our roads ready for chip and seal this spring,” said Center Township Trustee Greg Shyve.
In the meantime, the Columbiana County Engineer’s Office is loaning the township a truck and snowplow. Knox Township trustees are also loaning a truck and saltspreader, and Columbiana County ODOT is loaning a dump truck and snowplow.
There’s no word yet on what started the fire. The state fire marshall is expected to come out to the scene on Tuesday.
Center Township trustees will meet with insurance representatives on Monday.
