GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) – The 95-pound Rottweiler who police say was punched several times by his owner has been checked out by a vet and is back at Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County.
Humane agents say the veterinarian gave Hazard a clean bill of health so far, and besides the stresses of being in a different environment, he is doing well.
“We have not found injuries, at this point. We are still waiting for the final report, so he is here. He’s settling in, clearly showing some signs of stress, obviously. He has been through a lot,” said Kerry Pettit, executive director of the Animal Welfare League.
Hazard’s owner, 51-year-old John Giordano is facing a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge for the incident. Police identified Giordano as a man who was captured on video striking the dog several times.
He is due back in Girard Municipal Court on April 27 for a pretrial hearing on the charge.
Hazard will remain at the Animal Welfare League throughout the duration of the case, unless Giordano surrenders his ownership prior to its completion.
