Runners enjoyed warm weather for the Winter Sprinter in Canfield.

CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – Runners from all over the area took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather on Saturday by participating in the first-ever Winter Sprinter.

The four mile run and two mile walk, sponsored by Meridian Healthcare, went through the Mill Creek MetroParks Bike Trail in Canfield.

The top three places in each age group received awards, and participants and spectators enjoyed hot chocolate and pancakes after the race.

Coordinator Scott Landy says the weather may have encouraged people to come out.

“I ordered the sunshine, so hopefully we can continue this kind of a thing for next year. It’s really the first race of the year, so we’re having a lot of success with people coming out because of the weather,” he said. “I guess it’ll just be a tell-tale sign of whether or not we’re going to do this in the future.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit Prevention and Recovery in the Mahoning Valley.
