Trustee says injection well could cause problems for airport

The Vienna Twp. trustee says it's dangerous to have an injection well so close to the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.

A trustee says the injection well could cause problems for Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.

VIENNA TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – A Vienna Township trustee is concerned about the dangers of an injection well near the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.

Trustee Phll Pegg says the injection well, located right beside the airport, could create an earthquake or traffic accidents.

Officials with the Western Reserve Port Authority are aware of the concerns, but say there’s not much that can be done since the well is not on the Port Authority’s property. KTCA owns the property after Kleese Development Associates sold it last October.

“The majority of adjacent wells have already experienced some type of seismic activity, so it’s not a safe place to have that well,” Pegg said.

He says if there was an earthquake because of the well, flights would have to be diverted and it would cause problems for the township.
