YSU hosts Lake Erie Swimming championship meet for children

The meet in Youngstown is sanctioned under USA Swimming, which is a feeder for the Olympics.

The Lake Erie Swimming meet was held at Beeghly Center at Youngstown State University.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Beeghly Center at Youngstown State University hosted the championship swim meet for kids all across Northeastern Ohio on Sunday.

The swimmers, eight years old and under, competed for the top spot in their age group.

“Eight and unders are my favorite. It’s just so much fun because they aren’t to that point where they are nervous yet. They might know they want to win, and that’s about the extent of it,” said assistant age group coach C.J. Moser-Flatley. “It’s no pressure, and we don’t get that with the older kids.”

The meet is part of Lake Erie Swimming and is sanctioned under USA Swimming, which is a feeder for the Olympics.

If Sunday’s swimmers compete exceptionally well, they will return to Youngstown for the Regional Championships.
