Mahoning commissioners approve travel guide funds, turnpike ads

The Ohio Turnpike is the target of an ad campaign.

Mahoning County Commissioners are placing ads in guides along the Ohio Turnpike.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Ohio will be the center of the political universe this summer, and Youngstown is hoping to attract some tourists. With that in mind, Mahoning County Commissioners approved funding which goes along with the 2016 Mahoning County tourism guide.

The Convention and Visitors Bureau is focusing on putting that guide in Pittsburgh and Cleveland, especially the hotels near the Republican National Convention site.

The Ohio Turnpike is another venue the two groups are looking at to grab potential traffic to the area.

“We are working some different, various advertising along the Ohio Turnpike promoting Youngstown. The turnpike stops here. We are a great stop,” said Tara Mady, Mahoning County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Mahoning County travel guide will be available at every rest area along the 241-mile Ohio Turnpike.
