Berks County man facing charges in shooting that wounded girl, 10, in car

READING, Pa. (AP) – A man is facing charges in a shooting that wounded a 10-year-old girl riding in a car with her parents a few days before Christmas.

Police said 19-year-old Brent Ewing is being charged in Berks County with aggravated assault and related counts in the Dec. 21 gunfire that hit struck the girl in Reading.

Investigators said the defendant told them he saw a car circle the block a few times and believed the occupants intended him harm, since someone had shot at him from a car a few days earlier.

Sgt. Matthew Schappell of the criminal investigations division said the defendant “thought they were coming after him.”

A listed number for Ewing couldn’t’ be found Tuesday; it was unclear whether he had an attorney who could respond to the charges.
