YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A man was convicted of sex crimes in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Wednesday afternoon.
Brian Griffin was found guilty of eight counts of rape and eight counts of gross sexual imposition. Two counts of each charge had been dropped from the original 20-count indictment.
The victim was 8 years old at the time of the first crime, and Griffin was 22 and is a relative of the girl. He was living in the basement of the family’s Campbell home at the time, and investigators say the sexual conduct happened between 2012 and 2013, after the girl’s mother left for work in the morning.
The victim is 12 now and testified during the trial, which Mahoning County Assistant Prosecutor Jennifer McLaughlin helped the case immensely.
“She really had a lot of detail. Her account of what happened to her has always been extremely consistent,” she said.
Judge Shirley Christian revoked Griffin’s bond after the guilty verdict. The prosecution is going to ask for life in prison without parole.
His sentencing date is March 3.
