Group working to repeal Mill Creek Park levy to meet

The meeting will be held at the Youngstown Community Health Center

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A group working to repeal the Mill Creek MetroParks’ levy and remove its director is holding a meeting March 7.

The group, which has been working with members of the Guardians of Mill Creek Park, plans to meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Youngstown Community Health Center, located at 726 Wick Ave.

Judy Peyko, a member of the group, said the purpose of the meeting is to have discussions before the Mill Creek Park Board’s meeting on March 14.

Peyko said the group hasn’t begun circulating petitions to repeal the Mill Creek Park levy, but they have collected about 500 signatures on a petition to repeal Mill Creek MetroParks Executive Director Aaron Young.

The group formed with the purpose of repealing the park levy, because many members are unhappy with a round of employee layoffs at the park, just after a levy was approved by voters.

The Mahoning County Board of Elections hasn’t yet decided if an election will be held to repeal the levy, but Peyko said the group will take the issue to court, if necessary.
