CANTON, OH (WKBN)-Canfield senior Matthew Bogen finished 7th in the 100 Yard breaststroke in his final high school race at the Division II State Swimming Championships.

Bogen clocked a time of 1:01:06 about five seconds behind the winner Hudson McDaniel from Ashland.

“I was kinda hoping to get that 59:99, but it wasn’t happening,” said Bogen after his final race.

“It is still cool because I still got a medal and that is really neat. This meet, there are so many fast people and so many fast athletes, it is really just a privilege to be here and swim with these people.”

The Cardinals also sent three relay teams to the championships that all competed in the B heats which do not qualify to make the podium.

Canfield finished 12th (4th in B Final) in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, 11th (3rd in B Final) in the 200 Yard Freestyle, and 13th (5th in B Final) in the 400 Yard Free Relay.

“Yeah that was my last competitive race ever,” says senior Ben Brucoli.

“I am a little sad it is all over but I am just so happy with how I swam and everything and it feels great.”
