LISBON, Ohio (WKBN) – A Salem woman who punched her 7-year-old daughter in the eye was sentenced to six months in jail on Thursday after she told County Municipal Court Judge Chris Amato the child “has been pushing my buttons” for the past four years.
According to the Morning Journal, Anna Mayle, 23, was convicted of domestic violence. Mayle was also ordered not to have any contact with the girl, who was removed from her care and is living with a family friend.
Mayle told the judge when asked what happened that this was the first time she lashed out at the girl and “did something that left a mark.” The mother told the judge that the child “picked at her all day” and won’t listen. She also told the judge she didn’t take the girl to the doctor because the child didn’t complain about the injury, and Mayle didn’t want to get into trouble.
Mayle also has a 22-month-old son who she says is being cared for by herself and her fiancé, who she admitted has previous convictions for domestic violence from a previous marriage.
The prosecutor had recommended a 90-day sentence, but the judge went against the recommendation and sentenced Mayle to the maximum saying, “I can only put you in jail for six months. I wish I could give you more.”
