Customers stock up on seeds at Petitti’s in Boardman

The warmer weather is bringing more people in to garden centers during the winter.

Petitti's in Boardman is seeing more customers come in earlier, during the winter.

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Garden centers have seen a spike in winter sales this year due to the warmer weather.

Even though they aren’t selling plants yet, customers are coming in to purchase seeds.¬†Petitti’s in Boardman says several customers came in on Sunday, something that they don’t normally see at the end of February.

Assistant Manager Fred Shepherd says people are getting excited and hoping the warm weather stays.

“People are picking up their grass seed, filling in beds or holes in the ground. They’re starting their vegetables for inside…their herbs. All of that is starting to kick in now, earlier than usual.”

Shepherd says they will start getting plants in at the end of March or early April.
