House fire kills man in Streetsboro

The victim was found dead in the house, just a few feet from the front door.

STREETSBORO, Ohio (AP) – Investigators say an elderly man has been killed and three other people have been injured in a house fire in Portage County.

They say the blaze broke out around 12:40 p.m. Monday in Streetsboro and the man was found dead about five feet from the home’s front door.

Investigators say the fire was accidental and was sparked by smoking materials dropped by the man on a chair.

The identity of the victim was not immediately released.

The victim’s wife was taken to a hospital with burns and smoke inhalation. Officials say two other relatives were treated at the scene for similar injuries suffered while trying to save the man.

Investigators say the fire caused more than $100,000 in damage.
