Fire contained to walls at Boardman apartment building

Flames spread to the walls of the building.

A fire broke out at Glenwood Manor apartments in Boardman, Ohio.

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Emergency crews worked to contain a fire Thursday morning at a Boardman apartment complex.

Crews were called about 6:30 a.m. to Glenwood Manor Apartments on Glenwood Avenue after a fire broke out in the furnace room. Flames spread to the walls of the building.

All 12 residents were evacuated from the building and are displaced. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

No one was injured, but the building sustained heavy smoke and water damage.

One resident, who just identified herself as Michaela, said she woke up to smoke in her apartment.

“I just smelled smoke. I got up and went to the kitchen and I came back and saw the smoke all the way back by my daughter’s room. I immediately grabbed her and we started knocking on everyone’s door.” Michaela said.

Michaela said she’s concerned about the building being repaired properly and where tenants will be staying the mean time.

Glenwood Avenue, between Midlothian Boulevard and Overhill Road, was closed for about two hours as crews worked to clear the scene.
