Marcus Crum was charged with assault in connection to an incident at STEAM academy in Warren, Ohio.

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A former STEAM Academy staffer was sentenced in court on Thursday to charges that he assaulted a fifth grade student at the Warren school.

Marcus Crum was convicted of a misdemeanor assault charge. He was sentenced to probation and 15 days in the Warren Alternative Sentencing Program. Jail time will be waived if he completes 80 hours of community service, according to court records.

Crum was arrested in October, following accusations from Jill Sweet, who said he “slammed” her 11-year-old daughter into a locker when she refused to take off a headband.

Police said a surveillance video of the assault was crucial to the investigation.

Crum was employed as a parent liaison, but he no longer works at the school.
