SALINA, Kansas (KSN) – Salina officials have arrested a man on child abuse charges after a teenage girl suffered chemical burns to the mouth and throat.

Police Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL that 43-year-old Edward Miles was arrested on Wednesday. Miles is accused of soaking a piece of cloth in bleach, and shoving it into the mouth of a high school aged girl.

The victim was treated at Salina Regional Health Center on February 18th for chemical burns to her mouth and throat area. The hospital contacted authorities.

Miles could face charges that include child abuse and aggravated battery.
