Dayton man charged in slaying of Ohio mother dead in car

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) – A Dayton man has been charged in the slaying of a woman found fatally shot in a car with her unharmed 6-month-old daughter in southwest Ohio.

In a Friday statement, Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. says 37-year-old Curtis Howard Burdette faces charges that include aggravated murder, murder and felonious assault in the death of 29-year-old Brittany Russell.

Burdette has been in custody on an unrelated drug and remains at the Montgomery County jail. Messages seeking comment were left Saturday with his attorney.

Russell was found dead Feb. 10 at a parking lot of a Dayton apartment complex. Her daughter, Haven, was safely strapped in her car seat with the car and heater running.

Heck says the case remains under investigation and will be presented to a grand jury.
