BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Akron Children’s Hospital of the Mahoning Valley brought dolls to life on Saturday with its fifth annual American Girl Fashion Show fundraiser.

The event showcased historical and contemporary fashions for 160 girls and their dolls.

Several hundred families attended with their kids to hear the dolls’ stories. Even though it was also a fundraiser, hospital representative JoAnn Stock hoped it would teach young children in the audience important lessons.

“Each American Girl doll has a story, and it’s a wonderful story about building character and perseverance,” she said. “It’s a great message for young girls in the community as well.”

Last year, the event raised $30,000. Based on the turnout, organizers think they raised even more this year.
