Niles business supports police, fire with fundraiser

Sons of Italy raffled off gift baskets to benefit Niles safety services and show support for the levy.

Sons of Italy in Niles held a fundraiser to benefit the Police and Fire.

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – People in Niles rallied around their police and firefighters Saturday night.

The Sons of Italy club raffled off gift baskets. All of the money raised will benefit the Niles Police and Fire fund.

The city laid off three firefighters, three police officers and six other city employees recently.

Sons of Italy owner Scott MacMillan says they support the levy for Niles safety services on this month’s ballot.

“It’s very important for us to pass this police and fire levy for our community. It’s for the safety of our children, our streets and our businesses. We’re trying to come together as a community.”

Niles will re-hire the employees that were laid off if voters pass the levy.

In the meantime, donations can still be made at Sons of Italy. They’ll present the check Monday night.
