Boardman PD report: Man tried to impersonate police chief

The incident happened near Steak 'n Shake in Boardman on Feb. 28

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Boardman Police responded to a call Sunday, Feb. 28, about a man impersonating a police officer.

According to a police report, a man told police that he and his girlfriend were taking pictures of a cup near Steak ‘n Shake restaurant on Applewood Blvd. on the evening of the 28th when a man pulled up in a green Jeep Liberty, said, “I’m the Boardman police chief, pick up the cup now,” and activated a horn on his car before driving off, according to the report.

The man obtained a license plate number that he gave to police, but it was likely incorrect because it didn’t match any vehicles registered to that plate.

Police have not arrested anyone in connection with the event.
