Man charged in fatal Beloit crash appears in court

A car accident in Beloit leaves the passenger dead, and driver in critical condition.
FILE - An accident in Beloit on Jan. 16, 2016 leaves a passenger dead and the driver injured. 41-year-old Bryan Whitehurst is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide in the crash.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Alliance man who was behind the wheel when a passenger in his car was was killed appeared in court Tuesday.

Bryan Whitehurst, 41, appeared at his arraignment for a aggravated vehicular homicide charge in connection with a Jan. 16 crash. Whitehurst’s bond is $25,000, and he is being held at the Mahoning County Jail.

In the crash, Curtis Bauer, 43, died when the car Whitehurst was driving hit a tree, then a house on Fifth Street in Beloit. Investigators think speed and alcohol played a role in the crash. Whitehurst was injured, but no one in the house was hurt.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said they were pursuing the man after he ran a red light in Sebring.

A Mahoning County grand jury indicted Whitehurst.
