PITTSBURGH (AP) – The former basketball at a Pennsylvania high school has pleaded guilty to having sex with a 16-year-old female player and sentenced to 11 ½ to 23 months in jail.
Thirty-three-year-old Cliff Foster was sentenced after pleading guilty Wednesday to institutional sexual assault and corruption of minors.
His defense attorney says the former Pine-Richland coach pleaded guilty to spare the girl the trauma of a trial. Foster apologized to the girl and her family before he was sentenced by an Allegheny County judge.
Foster has been jailed since Jan. 19 after prosecutors say he violated his bond by contacting the girl. He sent her a necklace, a love letter and called her through his sister.
Foster will also serve seven years’ probation and can’t contact the girl for 10 years.
