YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The month of March marks a busy few weeks for downtown concert venues.
A number of acts will be hitting Valley stages in about a week, just in time for the St. Patrick’s Day holiday. Kelsey Rupert, director of marketing for the Covelli Centre, said it is the perfect storm.
“I would like to say we planned it that way… The stars have to align right, and they did. We’re really excited about that,” she said.
Rupert said having such well-known acts at the Covelli Centre is a major draw.
“To have Carrie Underwood, and turn around and have Elton John a few days later, it’s kind of historical to have that kind of talent span in just a few days,” she said.
Stambaugh Auditorium will also be hosting a big name act — ZZ Top — the same day that Elton John plays the Covelli Centre.
Kelly Fertig, director of marketing at Stambaugh, said she expects great sales for the next few shows.
“We have REO Speedwagon coming on April 7,” she said. “They’re great shows. We’re expecting great crowds for both of them. ZZ top has been selling very well.”
She said word of mouth and networking have helped a lot to spread the message of the bands coming to the city.
“There’s lots of restaurants downtown. Have dinner before the show, drinks after the show,” Fertig said. “It’s great. It helps us a lot too.”
