UAW 1714 finalizes local agreement with GM Lordstown

Production workers in the local needed to vote again after rejecting an earlier deal

LORDSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The 1,050 production workers with UAW Local 1714 at the GM Lordstown plant have voted in favor of a revised local agreement with the company.

The vote was taken between 5 a.m. Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday. The result was 61% in favor and 39% against.

The production members of the local had voted down a previous agreement, while the 300 trades members approved it.

That sent Local 1714 President Robert Morales and his negotiators back to the bargaining table, where Morales says they made changes to the agreement addressing ownership of jobs, combinations of classifications, and team leader language.

The yes vote means both Locals 1714 and 1112 are under contract nationally and locally for the next three and a half years.

Morales tells wkbn.com that with a lengthy period of negotiations that started in early summer of 2015, his members just want to do what they do best: build quality cars.
