Key Losses: The Cardinals will be without one of the top pitchers in the area – Christian Lowery – who graduated last spring. Lowery finished the campaign with a 7-1 mark and an earned run average of 1.77 (55.1 IP). He started 9 games (10 appearances) and went the distance in six of those outings. Trent Humphreys also graduated after enjoying a successful senior year during which he batted .355 (22-62), stole 14 bases and had an on-base percentage of .481. Jon Saadey and Bill Sweeny also are gone from last year’s 13-win team. Saadey hit .364 in 44 at bats (16 hits, 6 doubles) while having an OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) of 1.017. Sweeny had 6 RBIs and he pitched in six games while garnering a victory and a save on the hill.

Key Returnees: Mooney welcomes back a bevy of talented players led by seniors – Andrew Armstrong, Jack Lynch, Devin Curd, Aaron Woodberry and Mike Williams. Armstrong hit for a .370 average while closing out the year with 10 extra base hits (8 doubles, 2 triples) and 17 RBIs. He also struck out 24 batters in 32 2/3 innings on the mound while accumulating a 2.36 ERA. Lynch batted .351 (27-77) as he stole 11 bases and drove in 15 runs. Curd had 13 RBIs in just 31 plate appearances. In 20 games, Woodberry had an on-base percentage of .289 and 12 RBIs. Williams scored 9 runs and finished his junior year with a .300 OBP.

The Cardinals will also have juniors Dom Pecchia (.286 BA, 13 RBIs), Alex Wollet, Bryce Richey (.289 BA, 14 RBIs), Gino Guerrieri and Scott Frommelt back in the fold. Sophomores Jake Fonderlin, Antonio Page and Brennen Olesh all contributed as freshman. Juniors Chris Lewis and Dean Lower are newcomers to the team.

Outlook: With all that the Cardinals lost last year, Mooney appears to have a strong team once again behind the play of Andrew Armstrong, Jack Lynch, Bryce Richey and Dom Pecchia.
