Man found shot to death in New Castle

The shooter was hiding in a nearby wooded area

Police in New Castle, Pa are investigating a homicide.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. (WKBN) – New Castle Police arrested a man Tuesday night who they think was involved in the shooting death of another man that happened following an argument.

Police were called about 11 p.m. Tuesday to an apartment on Lincoln Avenue where they found DeMon Higgins, 25, of Detroit, lying outside the apartment complex with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police arrested Joseph Cohen, 46, of Beaver Falls, Pa., in connection to the shooting. He was found hiding in a nearby wooded area where he was ordered out at gunpoint and taken into custody. Police say a gun was found in the waistband of his pants.

According to a press release, New Castle Police believe that Cohen and Higgins started arguing before Cohen shot Higgins.

Cohen is charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
