EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) — City officials are investigating the source of a strange cloud-like formation and odor along the Ohio River Wednesday morning.
The Morning Journal reports that residents of East Liverpool and Wellsville began reporting the strong odor — ranging from a chlorine smell to burning oil — starting at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. The smell and haze was reported in the area of the river, as well as around Sunnyside Avenue and Webber Way.
Service-Safety Director Brian Allen told the Morning Journal that the city is “actively investigating” the source, saying it definitely came from downriver, although a source hasn’t been determined.
The odor reportedly dissipated by early afternoon.
