CityScape prepares for annual event to beautify Youngstown

Youngstown CityScape's planting day, known as Streetscape, will be held in June

Volunteers spruced the gateways to Youngstown, Ohio.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown CityScape kicked off its 19th annual Streetscape on Friday with a breakfast downtown.

Streetscape planting day will be Saturday, June 4th. Volunteers will remove debris, trim shrubs and trees and plant flowers around Youngstown.

CityScape’s executive director, Sharon Letson, says it’s a community effort.

“The thing that we are most proud of is our grassroots groups that come in, roll up their sleeves and help for the day,” she said.

Letson says the community working together is the reason Youngstown looks different today from 19 years ago.

For the first time this year, over 200 high school students will also volunteer.
