Family shaken after violent attack in Petersburg

Shots were fired and the suspect rammed the house

Robert Stanley aggravated burglary in Springfield Township

PETERSBURG, Ohio (WKBN) – A middle of the night attack on a family in Petersburg left three adults and three children shaken inside a home on East Garfield Road.

Springfield Township police were called to a home about 3 a.m. Friday after a man, later identified as Robert Edward Stanley, 34, of Darlington, Pa., showed up and began screaming and attempting to get into the home.

According to a police report, Stanley came to the home and began screaming while firing shots outside the house. The bullets hit one vehicle parked outside. A window on a white van was broken out by what appeared to be a blunt object.

Witnesses at the house told police that Stanley then smashed the front window out of the house, all the while screaming at the man inside the home to come outside. The man told police he watched as Stanley, bloody from breaking the window, tried to crawl inside the mobile home.

Stanley then rammed his Ford explorer into the deck and front of the home, causing heavy damage.

As police were being called, Stanley took off but was stopped by a New Middletown Police officer on Route 170. That officer said Stanley got out of the Ford Explorer and charged at him. The officer used his stun gun on Stanley and took him into custody. Stanley was later turned over to Springfield Township Police.

Police noted that Stanley’s clothes were bloody, adding that they found blood and shell casings at the East Garfield Road house.

Stanley was treated by paramedics for cuts on his hands. None of the victims in the house were injured.

Stanley is facing multiple charges including aggravated burglary, felonious assault, using weapons while intoxicated and failure to comply with a police signal.
