HOWLAND TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) – The Gander Mountain in Howland Township held its grand opening Friday.
The newly constructed store sits on the same lot as the former Gander Mountain, but this new construction boasts 61,000 square feet of retail space. The store has also doubled the number of employees.
Gander Mountain specializes in hunting, fishing and outdoor gear and this new space offers all that and more.
“The store is now about a bigger assortment. It is bigger, better with bigger assortments across the board,” said Dustin Summer, general manager.
Several celebrity appearances were planned as part of the grand opening.
Browns tight end Gary Barnidge stopped by Friday to sign autographs from 5 to 7 p.m.
Barnidge is coming off the best season of his career, leading the Browns with 1,043 yards receiving, along with nine touchdown catches. Despite all the changes in Cleveland, Barnidge is excited for the future.
“They have a plan in order, and I have whole faith in them and trust in them. You have to as a player, and as fans, you just gotta have trust that they know what they’re doing and they’re going to do things right,” he said. “They want to do things differently, and we’re going to do it differently… I wouldn’t have signed back there if i didn’t think so, and I’m just looking forward to it.”
The store will continue grand opening events throughout the weekend.
