Key Losses: Devin Rice, Matt Weidner, Austin Saverko and Drew Cyrus have all left the program after enjoying a successful 2015 season which saw the Clippers post an unbeaten league mark. Rice recorded a 6-1 mark on the hill while striking out 69 batters and registering a 2.44 ERA in 8 starts while issuing just 19 walks. Rice also hit .326 (28-86) while leading the team in total bases (39), slugging percentage (.453) and RBIs (23). Weidner finished 2015 with a .338 average (23-68) as he led the team in stolen bases (19) and runs scored (28). Saverko belted 7 doubles while accumulating a .281 batting average (18-64) and a slugging percentage of .391. Cyrus was one of the top relievers in the area last year as he garnered 4 saves and tossed a 2.72 ERA in 18 innings (mostly in relief).

Key Returnees: First-Team All-ITCL performers Keenan Green and Mitch Davidson both return for their junior seasons. To go along with Green’s team-leading batting average (.372), he also stole 17 bases and accounted for 38 total bases. In the field, Keenan had 156 chances while committing just 5 errors (.968). Davidson hit .329 (27-82), stealing 11 bases and finishing with 6 extra base hits (3 doubles, 3 triples). He recorded a 4-2 record on the mound with an ERA of 3.47 (29 Ks). Dylan Davin (OF), Nate Armstrong (C) and Josh Herbert (1B/P) are all back for their senior campaigns. Davin closed last season with the second-highest batting average on the team (.360) and the third most RBIs (21). Armstrong (.235 BA) and Herbert (.261) were both significant contributors to the 16-win Clippers. Tim Davin (OF/P) and Jake Clark (3B/P) return also. Tim had 5 doubles last Spring while amassing a .274 batting average (20-73). Clark finished the 2015 season with a 4-3 pitching record (3.61 ERA)

Outlook: When a team loses the talent (middle infielders and depth at pitching) that Columbiana lost a year ago, it would be natural to see regression. However, the Clippers welcome back their 2 through 5 hitters. Columbiana appears to be athletic and fast. They’re top two pitchers (Davidson and Clark) are solid arms which the Clippers should have confidence in.
