Youngstown police say driver deliberately rammed car

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A man is in the Mahoning County Jail today after police say he chased down a car and intentionally crashed into it on Youngstown’s east side Sunday.

Nikitas Smaragdas is charged with felonious assault in connection to a Youngstown accident. Nikitas Smaragdas, 24, is facing a felonious assault charge.

He’s accused of slamming into another car on McCartney Road near Keystone Avenue.

Police said the suspect told them he saw someone trying to break into his home, and went after them. Witnesses said Smaragdas was speeding and changing lanes. They told police he then slammed into the other car, sending both vehicles off the road.

On top of the assault charge, Smaragdas is facing a number of driving violations.
