WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) – A coroner and state police were continuing to investigate the death of an inmate at a southwestern Pennsylvania county jail.

Washington County Coroner Tim Warco says the body of 44-year-old Patrick Speer was found in his cell by guards making rounds on Thursday afternoon. Authorities have found no evidence of a crime or suicide, but the cause of Speer’s death is pending results of toxicology and other autopsy tests.

The jail about 25 miles southwest of Pittsburgh had three inmates kill themselves last year, all by hanging themselves with sheets.

Speer had been jailed since last March. He had been awaiting trial next month on charges stemming from an armed home invasion.
