Police ID man killed in southwestern Pennsylvania house fire

WEST NEWTON, Pa. (AP) – State police have identified an elderly man killed in a fire that destroyed a house in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Troopers from the Belle Vernon barracks say 78-year-old James Thomas Harris, known as Tommy to his friends, died in Monday’s fire.

The fire was reported before 5 a.m. Monday in the South Huntingdon Township, a largely rural area about 30 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

The Westmoreland County coroner’s office confirmed the fatality.

Authorities were still investigating the cause of the fire.
