HUBBARD, Ohio (WKBN) – All ramps in the Interstate 80-U.S. Route 62 interchange are open Friday following a tractor-trailer accident that happened in Hubbard Thursday night and led to one person’s arrest.
The Ohio Department of Transportation said the big rig took out several utility poles as it was pulling out of Truck World Thursday night.
No one was injured, but Route 62 remains closed as well as two of the three exit ramps at the interchange. ODOT says the ramp from westbound I-80 to Route 62 is blocked; same goes for the eastbound I-80 ramp to Route 62 north.
Ohio Edison crews are replacing the poles and reattaching power lines. ODOT says that work could continue into late Friday morning.
The driver of the truck is charged with operating a vehicle while impaired. Adam Plaxco, 36, of Warren, Michigan was also issued a citation for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.
Strong winds and heavy rainfall during the night complicated clean-up efforts.
Lt Richard Wittkugle with the Eagle Joint Fire District says they were hoping there wasn’t additional damage. “With the winds being the way they are and the rain and everything,” says Wittkugle, “the telephone pole is just barely hanging on.”
The state patrol continues investigating the crash.
