GOODYEAR, Arizona (WKBN) – Cleveland Indians’ Manager Terry Francona informed prospect and former Mahoning Valley Scrapper Tyler Naquin that he has made the Opening Day roster.

The 2012 first-round draft pick has been on a tear this Spring, batting .447 with 3 home runs and 5 RBI’s.

Naquin was informed of the news Friday morning, and promptly clubbed a solo homer later in the day against the Diamondbacks.

“We’ve seen this kid come from two years ago in our one-on-one meetings, he would barely look at us, to growing into a man and accepting the challenge this Spring. And we’ve all seen what he has done with it,” Manager Terry Francona said. “So, to be able to tell him and see his reaction, it was hard to not be emotional.  The last thing I want to do is start crying at 9:30 in the morning.  But it was hard not to.  You give so many people tough news.  Then when you’re able to tell somebody something like that, it was a really good feeling.”

Naquin spent the 2012 season at Mahoning Valley.  He appeared in 36 games, batting .270 with 11 doubles, and 13 RBI and 4 stolen bases.
