AKRON, Ohio (WKBN) – A Florida man was sentenced Wednesday in Summit County Court on charges surrounding a Feb. 21 traffic stop where police say he chewed off his fingerprints so they couldn’t identify him.
Kirk Kelly, 24, of Tampa, Florida, was a rear passenger in a vehicle when it was stopped by Tallmadge police. During the stop, Kelly lied about his identity and chewed off his fingerprints in an attempt to prevent officers from using a mobile fingerprint scanner, according to Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh.
According to Walsh, Kelly also attempted to escape from police.
Kelly pleaded guilty Wednesday to escape, tampering with evidence, obstructing official business and resisting arrest. He was immediately sentenced to 18 months in prison.
