Police: Suspect in Humane Society officer attack charged

Police say McCullen Webb attacked the officer with a shovel and cut him with a knife

AKRON, Ohio (AP) – A man shot and wounded by Akron police after they say he attacked a humane society officer with a knife, shovel and barbells has been charged with felonious assault.

Police say 33-year-old McCullen Webb, of Akron, on Monday attacked the humane society officer after the officer pulled his van to the side of the road to make a phone call. Police say the attack was unprompted.

Court records don’t list an attorney for Webb, who police say has a history of mental illness.

Police say Webb attacked the officer with a shovel, cut his head, face and arms with a knife and threw barbells into the windshield.

Authorities say a responding police officer shot Webb after a stun gun had no effect.

Both injured men were expected to recover.
