NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – The American Red Cross hosted a Preparedness Day at the Eastwood Mall in Niles on Saturday.
In partnership with Dominion East Ohio, they taught people the importance of being ready in the event of a disaster.
“They’re just more prepared in their homes to prevent home fires, aware of what carbon monoxide symptoms are and what they should do in the event of feeling those symptoms,” said Kristen Gallagher of the Red Cross.
Participants took a pretest and post-test to determine their safety knowledge. Afterwards, they received a first aid kit filled with safety supplies like band aids, gauze, and hand sanitizer.
Volunteers say they ran out of supplies quickly from the flood of people who participated early.
The event in Niles was just one of several across Northeast Ohio on Saturday. They were also in Cleveland, Akron, Canton and Ashtabula.
