WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Police say a 22-year-old man assaulted a 71-year-old man who was feeding pigeons in the parking lot of Kmart.

Around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2, the alleged victim told police that he was in the parking lot near Kmart on Parkman Road, in an area of the lot far from the store where there were no cars.

The man told an officer that a white PT Cruiser sped through the parking lot, coming close to him and disturbing the pigeons that he was feeding. He said he yelled an expletive to the driver of the vehicle, and a few minutes later, a man approached him and grabbed the bag he was holding, according to a police report.

The victim said the suspect, later identified as A’Drean Bennett, then asked him about calling his mother the explicit name and punched him in the face, shattering his eyeglasses.

Police said Bennett and his mother left the area in the PT Cruiser, which was stopped later on Denison Drive NW.

Bennett was arrested and charged with assault. He was taken to Trumbull County Jail and later released, according to jail records.

Police said Bennett dropped his cell phone in the parking lot during the assault, and two people witnessed the assault from the McDonald’s parking lot.

The alleged victim was taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital for his injuries and complaints of feeling lightheaded and dizzy.

Bennett called WKBN April 8 and said that he was not speeding in the parking lot.
