2016 Fitch Softball Preview
Head Coach: Steven Ward, 2nd season (14-13)
2015 Record: 14-13 (5-5), AAC Red

More: High School Softball previews from other teams

Key Losses: The team lost two contributors to graduation – Alexis Zimmerman and Ashley Hawryluk – from last year’s 14-win season.

Key Returnees: Senior pitcher Alex Franken is back along with a large group of juniors in second baseman Maddie Everhart, first baseman McKenzie Luknis, infielder Brianna Protain, outfielder Julia McMenamin and catcher Emily Haggerty. All six were letterwinners a year ago. An influx of talent (Erin Harper, Christina Tucker, Kayla Kelty and Lainie Simons) has coach Ward excited about this season. The left side of the field consists of a pair of freshmen (Simons at 3B and Kelty in LF) and sophomores (Harper at SS and Tucker in CF).

Outlook: “Alex Franken is the key to our team,” says Ward. “Our young team gains confidence from her. This group has the ability to have huge bats and play error free ball.” As coach pointed out, although the team is slightly inexperienced in some areas, the girls make up for it by playing with a high level of tenacity. One of the team’s goals is to hit with a high batting average with runners on base.
