YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown State University President Jim Tressel and Mercy Health CEO Don Cline announced a new 10-year partnership on Wednesday morning.

The agreement, which goes into effect May 1, should continue to strengthen the existing ties between two of the Valley’s largest employers.

As part of the agreement, the two entities will work together to operate the on-campus Health Care Center, which offers services to university students and staff.

“The nurse practitioner and the nurse will stay, but now we’ll have the Mercy Health physicians, doctors and staff that are able to come and help continue to grow the student health center here,” said President of Mercy Health Physicians Dr. Jim Kravec. “We have the backing of Mercy Health physicians and Mercy Health.”

The Health Care Center was previously operated by ValleyCare.

The partnership will also open doors for collaboration on a new master’s degree program in athletic training.

Directors say this new partnership will ultimately help the university recruit students into the healthcare field, and Mercy Health with providing new employees trained at YSU.
